Lands of Androhil tutorial Once you have received your first turn sheet, the game can begin. You now have all the information you need to decide what you will do. Unless you have opted to start near a friend's character, you will begin your adventure in a town. This is convenient, because it allows you to get supplies for the journey. Let's have a look at what might be the most important part of your turn sheet: the map.
In this case, the woman in the green square is you. The 'B' next to you refers to the legend below the map which tell you that you are at the 'Trollslayer Guild House'. Further down on your turnsheet in the section 'Points of Interest' you can find a description of this shop as well as what's on offer here. But first, let's have a look around. Two squares to your north you have spotted a blood hawk, called Roac. It's name is in red which means that it is hostile towards you. It is one of the many predators you will encounter. Since you do not yet know anything about blood hawks, it might be wise to take a look by issueing an 'examine Roac' order. Your character will have a look at the bird and tell you everything she knows about blood hawks in general and this one in particular. Right now, all we know is that it is hostile and will attack us if we come within its range. As a rule of thumb: Creatures that attack with teeth, beaks or claws have an attack range of 0, meaning they can only attack you when you are the same map square as they. Melee weapons have a range of 0 (most daggers), 1 (swords, axes and maces) meaning they can strike at their own square or any directly adjacent or 2 (the longest kind of pole weapon). Ranged weapons like bows and crossbows have a range of anywhere from 4 to 8 and up. Expecting blood hawks to only have a beak attack with range 0, you assume that you are safe now. Of course, Roac will move around and may come for you. Two squares to your east you can see Claire Blacklock. She is a 1st level swordswoman which means she is not a very experienced adventurer, but probably good with a sword. Her name is in green, meaning she is friendly. In this case Claire is another player's character. By clicking on her name, you can email the player and possibly make a friend. This is likely a good idea, since you could coordinate an attack on Roac, or maybe share some information or even equipment. Speaking of equipment. As a fresh adventurer you have started with very little and may want to beef up your collection of gear. The 'points of Interest' section of your turn sheet lists all visible shops and the stuff they have for sale. You decide you need a tinderbox and some torches, which are for sale at the harbor. Also, Dernhelm Greenleaf, the alchemist sells all kinds of potions which are described as unidentified. This makes you curious. If a shop sells anything you don't recognize, you can go to the shop and 'examine' it. Shopkeepers are often happy to explain the function of their wares. So, you decide to pass by Dernhelm on your way to the harbor. From your current position you have also spotted a copper coin lying just 1 map square west of the harbor. It's not much, but let's pick it up along the way. Your orders would be: examine Roac move south move southwest move southwest move west move southwest examine red potion examine green potion examine bubbling potion move southeast take copper coin move east buy tinderbox buy 5 torches The exact meaning and syntax of all orders is listed in the manual. To enter orders, go here and fill out the form. Once that is done, you must wait until the next turn sheet arrives with the results Somewhere below the map you can find another very important thing on your turn sheet: the statistics section. This section holds a lot of information about your character. From physical strength and intelligence, to learned spells and carried inventory. If you play your cards right, just about anything in this section can be improved upon, allowing your character to grow into a legendary warrior, or wizard, or whatever. Most things in this section are explained to you if click on them. E.g., you can click on the word 'Attributes' to learn something about them. Or on 'Strength' or 'Health' or 'Encumbrance'. |
